Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Work

Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Work

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, support people affected by breast cancer and help fund vital research and support.

For workplaces, it’s also a great opportunity to bring teams together around something that really matters.

From wearing pink and fundraising to sharing trusted breast awareness information, there are plenty of simple ways to get involved without making things feel too formal or complicated.

Here are a few ideas to bring Breast Cancer Awareness Month into your workplace this October.

Wear it pink

One of the easiest ways to get the whole team involved is to take part in Breast Cancer Now’s annual Wear It Pink day.

Ask everyone to wear something pink and make a donation. You can keep it simple or turn it into a full office moment with decorations, prizes and a best-dressed competition.

Hybrid team? No problem. Remote colleagues can still join in over video calls, and everyone can share their pink looks in your team chat.

It’s an easy way to make the day feel visible and get people talking.

Host a pink bake sale or coffee morning

Few things bring an office together quite like cake.

A pink bake sale, coffee morning or afternoon tea is a simple way to create a team moment while raising money at the same time.

Ask colleagues to bring something along, set up a donation pot or fundraising page, and encourage everyone to take a proper break together.

If you don’t have a queue of enthusiastic bakers waiting in the wings, you can always outsource the sweet stuff.

Our Breast Cancer Awareness Month treats are made for workplace events like these, including pink mini loaf cakes, brownie bites and awareness ribbon biscuits.

They’re an easy way to add something pink to the table without making the event feel overly styled or complicated.

Get moving together

Not every fundraiser needs to revolve around the office kitchen.

Breast Cancer Now encourages people to get active during October, and a walking challenge can work brilliantly for workplace teams.

Set a collective mileage target, start a leaderboard or split into departments and see who can clock up the most distance across the month.

Lunchtime walks, before-work strolls and weekend miles all count.

It’s simple, inclusive and gives everyone another way to take part.

Turn fundraising into a little friendly competition

A fundraiser doesn’t have to be elaborate.

You could run a pink-themed quiz, office bingo, sweepstake, raffle or desk-decorating competition and ask everyone taking part to make a small donation.

Add a few prizes and a bit of healthy competition and suddenly the whole office is invested.

Best pink outfit. Best decorated desk. Biggest fundraising total.

Bragging rights are, naturally, compulsory.

Make awareness part of the month too

Fundraising is hugely important, but Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also about exactly that: awareness.

Breast Cancer Now provides trusted information about breast awareness and knowing what’s normal for you.

Workplaces can help by sharing useful resources in internal newsletters, Slack channels or on the company intranet.

It doesn’t need to become a big campaign.

Sometimes simply making reliable information easy to find is just as valuable.

Add something pink to the workplace

Small touches can help make your activity feel a little more considered.

Pink decorations, ribbons on desks or themed treats can all help tie everything together, especially if you’re hosting a Wear It Pink day, coffee morning or fundraiser.

Our awareness ribbon biscuits are an easy option for this and can be delivered nationwide.

For London workplace events, our Breast Cancer Awareness mini loaf cakes and brownie bites bring a little extra pink to the table.

We’ll also be making a donation from every sale of our Breast Cancer Awareness mini loaves and brownies to Breast Cancer Now.

Come together for something that matters

There’s no single right way to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month at work.

You might wear pink for the day, organise a fundraiser, take on a team challenge, share breast-awareness information or simply create an opportunity for colleagues to come together.

The important thing is taking part in a way that feels right for your workplace.

A little pink, a little fundraising and a lot of team spirit can go a long way.
