We believe that a good slice of cake and a cuppa can solve most of life’s problems. That said, cake can’t fix everything (if only). We have to take responsibility when it comes to sustainability and looking after the planet.
Your cake should not only taste good but be responsibly sourced and delivered to your office. That way you can tuck into that slice with zero guilt. You supported small businesses and reduced your impact on the planet, go ahead and treat yourself.
Here are 4 ways we’re committed to sustainability at CakeDrop.
Zero CO2 cake deliveries
Pedalling around the city centre isn’t for everyone. With London’s unpredictable weather and cockney road rage, life in the cycle lane can be a challenge. But we’re committed to zero CO2 deliveries and that means getting on our bike.
Not only do our pedal-powered cakes help reduce our impact on the climate, but it also means that we can ensure every cake is handled with care.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. All our cakes come in 100% recyclable cardboard boxes. That means there’s no confusion on how to throw away the box and no swearing as you try to fit an awkwardly shaped plastic tray into the bin.
Eco-friendly bakeries and vegan champions
Vegan baking has come a long way in recent years. The demand for more flexible options has led to delicious vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free cakes.
The link between meat/dairy and higher co2 emissions has been making headlines for a few years now. Many of us have taken a closer look at what’s on our plate, with some going full vegan and others following more of a flexetarian diet. A vegan diet has a lot lower carbon-foot print that the average carnivore. Whilst it’s unlikely you’ll ever find beef on our menu, we do offer dairy and egg free cake options. We want to create an opportunity for more people to enjoy cake and make more sustainable choices if they wish.
If you fancy opting for a vegan bake, all you have to do is select ‘vegan’ when scheduling your CakeDrop and we’ll take care of the rest. Almost all our bakers have vegan options, but we also work with several 100% vegan bakeries who specialise in free-from cakes.
The vegan cakes we deliver are so delicious that they’re enjoyed by the entire office. Sorry vegan, dairy-free gang – the secret is out and that means sharing. Whether you’re looking for plant-based cakes or feeling vegan-curious, we’ve got you covered.
In 2019 environmental experts Business Waste called for a ban on open refrigerators in supermarkets. Why? Well apart from curbing the impulse to buy multi-packs of brie, these fridges are having a big impact on the environment. Supermarkets use 1.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy each year, with 60-70% used by fridges. That’s the energy equivalent of boiling the kettle 15 million times. That’s one hell of a tea round.
Our cakes are freshly baked and sent on our zero CO2 bikes to your office. We keep them cool on route using specially insulated bags but we never refrigerate. Of course, you’re welcome to store your cake in the office fridge, that’s if you don’t eat it all straight away.
We’re on a mission to make our business as sustainable as possible. If you have any questions about our cakes or bakers, we’re happy to chat.
